Primary 5 have enjoyed a range of science experiments as part of our Human Body Topic.

We used lemon juice and crackers to show how the stomach uses acid to help break down our food.

Gabriella and Rebecca are testing the difference between the crackers with lemon juice and the ones without. Which was easier to crush?

Aiden did not like the look of the cracker after it had been crushed and mixed with lemon juice! This is how it looks in
 your stomach!














We also used milk, food colouring and dish soap to show how the liver uses bile to break down fats in the body.The dish soap breaks down the fat in the milk and the colours start to swirl around the plate!

January

Well Primary 5 have had a very busy January! Highlights have included writing a range of poetry, with the opportunity to work with teachers from P6, P7/6 and P7. The class also worked hard to learn to 'To a Mouse' by Robert Burns as part of our Scots Language unit. This was topped off by a Burns recital competition judged by Mr Clark on Burns Day. Well done to Huda and Aiden who showed great courage to recite the poem to the whole of the upper school!

Measuring

Primary 5 have had a busy week preparing for our assembly. Thank you to all our friends and family who came along to watch!

In other areas, we have been busy developing our measuring skills. We worked in pairs to investigate different statements about the human body, such as 'your arm span is equal to your height' or your 'forearm is the same length as you shin.'

Fun with Fractions

P5 have been enjoying learning about fractions this week. We have been exploring fractions in many different ways, such as equivalent fractions, fractions of numbers and using different coloured Skittles to show a fraction. We especially enjoyed the Skittles activity because we got to eat a couple at the end!

Titanic topic

P5 have been enjoying our Titanic topic this term. This week we attempted to recreate the ship's watertight compartments using plastic bottles. Then it was off to the STEM Hub to test our creations in water. Sadly none were completely watertight but some were very close- enough to keep the bottle afloat even with a puncture hole!

Later in the week, the children wrote their own set of instructions for the experiment in their Big Writing. 

Primary 5 have enjoyed taking part in a range of activities for Maths Week! Activities have included problem solving in class, Mathletics, Escape the Room with Mr Clark and a co-ordinate hunt in the playground.

Primary 5 have described this week as awesome, fun, challenging and even exhilarating!

Sports Day

• Primary 4 did NOT let the rainy weather impact their enthusiasm and enjoyment during Sports Day-they had a ball!
• The children worked in groups to compete in different sporting activities such as, egg and spoon race, dress up race, sack race and an obstacle race.
• They encouraged one another and displayed great sportsman ship!
• Well done Primary 4. :)
